What To Expect During Your First Chiropractic Appointment

October 23, 2022

Many people have heard of the term “chiropractic.” But you might not know what exactly the treatment involves. Chiropractic adjustments use a hands-on approach to relieve pain by targeting it at its very source. With a full-body approach to wellness, patients gain a better understanding of what triggers their symptoms and what allows them to manage them. If you’ve booked your first chiropractic appointment with Integrated Health Solutions, you’re likely wondering what you can expect. Start your pain management strategy with our team. We deliver holistic solutions to eliminate your pain.

Your First Visit: Patient History

For most patients, the first appointment mainly involves information-gathering. Our chiropractors will perform various tests and take your vitals to assess your current health. We consider patient records, too, and any underlying health issues you’ve been dealing with, so your treatment includes the scope of your current and past health.

We will ask you questions that provide us with a better understanding of your pain, which may include:

  • When did your pain start?
  • Were you injured or involved in an accident before the pain began?
  • Where is the pain primarily located?
  • Does the pain spread to other parts of the body?
  • Does it get worse with activity?
  • Do you have other symptoms, such as numbness, weakness or muscle tension?

Chiropractic Exam

During the exam, we will take your blood pressure, record your weight, height and other relevant physical characteristics, as well as perform tests for your reflexes. Neurological tests let us check your body’s range of motion, muscle strength and tone and neurological integrity. Assessing the motion of a joint or painful area gives us the information needed to create an effective pain management strategy. We’ll discuss the findings of the exams during your subsequent appointment with our chiropractor.

Diagnostics

Some causes of chronic pain are complex. For instance, an injury you had years ago may continue to cause you problems, and many times, our physicians need additional testing to find the reason why. We may order diagnostic testing if we need further examinations to fully understand your health condition. This may include x-rays and imaging to uncover the issues underlying your pain.

Information on Your Chiropractic Appointment

We are here to answer all of your questions. In addition to testing, we can help you know what to expect during your future chiropractic appointments. Based on the results of your tests, we will set up your chiropractic appointments regularly. For most patients, you will visit our office once every week. We may also recommend pairing your chiropractic adjustments with our other treatments. We offer a full range of noninvasive procedures to ease pain and get you back on your feet. Our other treatments include trigger point therapy, cold laser therapy, decompression, functional medicine and more to build your custom treatment plan.
